(News) reported by Candy: On the afternoon of August 24, flags were flying outside the Japanese consulate in Vancouver, and demonstrators were filled with anger. The Chinese Benevolent Association of Canada led overseas Chinese from all walks of life to protest over Japan’s invasion of Diaoyu Island and submit a solemn statement.

More than 100 people from a dozen of associations such as the Chinese Benevolent Association of Canada, Chinese Freemasons of Canada, National Congress of Chinese Canadians, Canadian Alliance of Chinese Associations, Senior Chinese Society of Vancouver, CESC, Hunan Fellow Association of Canada, Quanzhou Fellow Association of Canada, University Alumni Association, Canada-China Entrepreneurship Association took part in the demonstration.

On behalf of all overseas Chinese in Vancouver, Zhu Zhanlun, Chairman of the Chinese Benevolent Association of Canada spoke out sternly the solemn announcement and protested over Japan’s invasion of Diaoyu Island owned by China (full text of the announcement will be dispatched separately). Mai Boqiang, Deputy Chairman of the Chinese Benevolent Association of Canada also delivered a speech to strongly condemn the revival of Japanese militarism.

Over the past 300 years, the Chinese Freemasons of Canada regarded the protection of the territory integrity of China as its mission. Yao Chongying, on behalf of the Chinese Freemasons of Canada, solemnly made the following five declarations, reiterated the territory integrity of China (especially the sovereign right of Diaoyu Island cannot be infringed), sternly reprimanded the barbaric acts of Japanese government and prohibited the revival of Japanese militarism.

Overseas Chinese leaders such as Lin Zhongqiang, Wu Junyu, Pan Miaofei, Jan Liang, Chen Guo’an, Che Yinglin also vehemently condemned Japan’s infringement on China's sovereign right to Diaoyu Island. At last, Zhu Zhanlun, Chairman of the Chinese Benevolent Association of Canada, Mai Boqiang, Deputy Chairman of the Chinese Benevolent Association of Canada and Yao Chongying, chief representative of the Chinese Freemasons of Canada, submitted a solemn announcement to the Japan's consulate in Vancouver, but the Japanese party refused to dispatch personnel to take it. Zhu Zhanlun said that it proved that the Japanese party had a guilty conscience of what they have done. Mai Boqiang said that they will resort to diplomatic approach and ask the Chinese consulate in Vancouver to give the announcement to the Japan’s consulate in Vancouver.

Overseas Chinese in Vancouver strongly protest over Japan's infringement upon China's sovereign right to Diaoyu Island

                Solemn Announcement
Recently, some Japanese right-wing activists, under the connivance of the Japanese government authorities, disregarded China's solemn representation, took their own course and illegally arrested Chinese citizens who landed on Diaoyu Island to defend China's territory. Such Japanese right-wing activists committed wrong acts such as "selling Diaoyu Island", "Diaoyu Island Nationalization Plan" and "Illegal Landing on Diaoyu Island to Declare Sovereignty" and seriously infringed China's territorial sovereignty and hurt the Chinese people's feelings. As overseas Chinese in Vancouver, we are indignant with such malicious and provocative acts and hereby make the solemn statement:
  1. We strongly protest and condemn Japan's infringement on China's sovereign rights to Diaoyu Island, and the Japanese government must immediately take effective measures to cease all illegal acts towards Diaoyu Island.
  2. We firmly support the Chinese government to safeguard the sovereignty of Diaoyu Island. The Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands belong to China's inherent territory, and no one is allowed to invade them. Any unilateral actions taken by the Japanese government on the Diaoyu Island are illegal and invalid, and the Japanese must immediately withdraw from Diaoyu Island.
  3. We call for compatriots at home and abroad to face up to the revival of Japanese militarism and its scheme to forcibly occupy the territory of China. To this end, we sternly advise Japanese authorities to face up to history, profoundly reflect on the past and look to the future, stop bringing damage to China's territorial sovereignty, and get back to the right track. We suggest resolving the problem through friendly negotiation, thus maintaining the relationship between China and Japan.
  4. Overseas Chinese at home and abroad should strengthen solidarity, pay close attention to the situation, struggle to safeguard the dignity of the Chinese nation and the territorial integrity of the motherland (if required) and be prepared at any time to disclose and denounce all illegal attempts of Japanese right-wing activists (August 24, 2012).
