Chinese Entrepreneurs Society of Canada

Chinese Entrepreneurs Society of Canada led by Jan Liang is the only Chinese general chamber of commerce that is legally registered in the Canadian Federal Government.

Founded in 1995, the Chinese Entrepreneurs Society of Canada (CESC) is a non-profit and non-political business association that is registered in the Canadian Federal Government. It aims to boost the development of enterprises owned by Chinese entrepreneurs, encourage them to engage into the business community of Canada, contribute to the promotion of development and communication of economy, trade, culture and education among Canada, China and others by establishing a global business network. It is co-founded by eight chambers of commerce in Vancouver, namely Vancouver Chinatown Merchants Association, Richmond Asia Pacific Business Association, Chinese Federation of Commerce of Canada, Canadian Chinese Business Development Association, Hong Kong Merchants' Association of Vancouver, Lower Mainland Independent Grocers Association, Taiwan Business Association, and China-Canada Business Association. The idea of establishing CESC was proposed by Chinese entrepreneurs in Canada such as Dr. David See-chai Lam (then lieutenant-governor of British Columbia), Mr. Richard Wong (founding president), Huang Wei (1st president) and famous entrepreneur Mr. Xie Boheng.

In 1997, CESC held the Fourth World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention in Vancouver, Canada.

In December 1995, the first President, Mr Huang Wei led the delegation of over 40 people to take part in the Third World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention held in Bangkok, Thailand, and accepted the task of holding the Fourth World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention. In August 1997, the Fourth World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention was held by CESC in Vancouver. More than 1300 delegates from over 20 countries and regions, as well as Jean Chretien (then Prime Minister of Canada), David See-chai Lam (then lieutenant-governor of British Columbia) and Glen Clark (then governor of British Columbia) attended the event. It was a huge success and won broad praises from participants from all walks of life of the society. Meanwhile, friendly cooperation relationship has been established among Chinese general chamber of commerce in Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and etc.

The CESC led by former presidents Huang Wei, Yue Tang, Xie Yingzhen and incumbent president Jan Liang has made great achievements an created a splendid history over the past decade! It organized many commercial activities for entrepreneurs and organized trade delegations to successively visit China and many countries in the world. At the same time, it organized a delegation each year to participate in the "China International Fair for Investment & Trade" (hereinafter referred to as "CIFIT") hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China. It also received a lot of delegations coming from various provinces and cities in China.

In order to bring things back to order and protect the reputation of CESC, a general meeting was held on July 11, 2011 to elect new council members and the president. Jan Liang was elected as the president.

Under the leadership of the President Jan Liang, the CESC has opened a new chapter!

Thanks to the support provided by the Canadian government and the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver, Canada, the CESC carries forward its traditions, creates conditions and plays an active role in helping Canadian companies and Chinese companies to mutually invest in each other, establish cooperation relationship and achieve a win-win situation. It has become an important platform for other countries and regions to attract investment and for Canadian enterprises to invest abroad. Meanwhile, an economic network has been established for Chinese entrepreneurs across the world to promote the communication and cooperation in the economy, trade, culture and education among Canada, China and others.

The general meeting is the highest authority of CESC. The council is responsible for implementing all requirements and goals of the general meeting. The president shall be elected by the council. The deputy president shall be nominated by the president and elected by the council. The secretary-general shall be appointed by the president. CESC currently sets up the Secretariat, Commercial Affairs Department, Culture Department, Public Relations Department and Membership Department.
