CESC is a very important overseas Chinese association just like other Chinese General Chamber of Commerce located in other places around the world. It has great influence and appeal on overseas Chinese societies, especially the Chinese entrepreneur circle. In mid-July, Jan Liang was elected as the president of CESC by all council members. When talking about her next two-year term of office, she admitted that it is a job with huge responsibility, but she was quite confident that she could handle it well.
She proudly said that CESC is a not only an influential business association, but also a patriotic overseas Chinese association with a good tradition. Even though it was founded in 1995, it held the Fourth World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention only two years later (in 1997). She added that over 3,000 people, including the Prime Minister of Canada and celebrities in political and business circles, attended the Convention thanks to the hard work of CESC. The Convention not only strengthens the links with Chinese entrepreneurs in other countries, promotes the economic and trade cooperation, but also brings opportunities for the economic development of Vancouver, Canada.
In view of the glorious past that she was quite proud of, she racked up brains on how to lead the association to make greater achievements. She said “After I assume this post, the question I alway bear in my mind is how to establish a bridge for the business and trade cooperation between Canada and China, better integrate into the mainstream society of Canada, spread the Chinese culture and act as a non-governmental ambassador to the friendship between Canada and China".
Perhaps it is because that she was too eager to complete her mission, she received a delegation from Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology only two days after she took office, and held different business activities. She was as busy as a bee. Earlier this month, she organized a press conference and announced that the association would organize a delegation consisting of Canadian entrepreneurs to take part in the 11th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention that will be held in Singapore in October. "The biennial event aims to to provide overseas Chinese entrepreneurs and business people with a platform to strengthen economic cooperation and promote mutual understanding." She has repeatedly called for Chinese entrepreneurs in Canada to take part in the Convention and jointly establish a business network that connects all Chinese entrepreneurs around the world.
She said that she would lead newly elected council members and CESC members to unite together, actively participate in social activities, create a harmonious environment, maximize the role played by CESC, and contribute to promoting the economic cooperation and cultural exchange among Canada, China and others. She is also the President of Sun Yat-Sen University CEO Alumni Association in Canada. Under the modest and gentle outlook, she was a traditional Chinese female. But she was a capable and strong female from her words and deeds. She was full of expectation and hopes about the future of CESC. In addition, she was confident that China can have a better future.
